A bulletproof vehicle has been put in place at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport for the movement of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, who is returning to Bangladesh on Thursday after nearly 17 years.

Sources said the vehicle arrived at the airport at around 7:15am and will be used for Tarique Rahman’s travel from the airport to various programmes in the capital.

Earlier, Tarique Rahman reached London’s Heathrow Airport on Wednesday night. Leaders and activists of BNP’s UK unit accompanied him up to the airport security area. After completing immigration formalities, the flight carrying him departed for Dhaka shortly after midnight.

Tarique Rahman is returning on the same flight with his wife, Dr. Zubaida Rahman, and daughter, barrister Zaima Rahman. Around 50 BNP leaders and activists are also traveling on the same flight, according to party sources.

BNP insiders said that upon landing in Dhaka, Tarique Rahman will spend some time at the airport’s VIP lounge ‘Rajnigandha’. He will then travel by road via Kuril to the reception venue at the ‘July 36 Expressway’ (300 Feet area), where he is scheduled to address a gathering. He is expected to remain there until 3:40pm.

After the programme, Tarique Rahman will visit Evercare Hospital to see his mother, BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, who is currently undergoing treatment.
