Police said a passenger, Abdul Mannan, 45, was allegedly targeted by the gang while travelling on a bus from Gulistan to Gazipur. Mannan fell unconscious after reportedly being drugged by the suspects.

Sensing the crime, other passengers subdued the five men and turned them over to police officers from Hatirjheel Police Station.

The arrestees were identified as Nur Alam, Osman, Rashid, Kamal, and Billal, according to Sub-Inspector Rajib Hossain.

“A case has been filed over the incident,” SI Rajib told reporters. “The suspects will be produced before court on Thursday.”

Police recovered Tk 59,500 in cash and a mobile phone belonging to Mannan from the suspects. Both the victim and the accused were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment following the incident.

“The five suspects received first aid before being brought to the station. However, the victim has not yet regained consciousness,” Rajib added.
