CA instructs airtight security for 13th national election

Chief Adviser of the interim government Professor Muhammad Yunus has directed the heads of the three armed forces to ensure full security for the upcoming 13th national parliamentary election.

He gave the instructions during a meeting at the state guest house Jamuna at 7pm on Saturday, November 1, attended by Army Chief General Waker-uz-Zaman, Navy Chief Admiral Mohammad Nazmul Hassan, and Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmud Khan. National Security Adviser Dr Khalilur Rahman was also present.

Praising the role of the armed forces in maintaining national security and law and order, the Chief Adviser said, “Over the past 15 months, members of all forces, including the army, have worked tirelessly to maintain law and order across the country. Necessary directives have been issued to ensure the election is held under an airtight security blanket.”

He further said, “The interim government is committed to ensuring that the election scheduled for the first half of February is free, fair, impartial, peaceful, and festive.”

During the meeting, the three service chiefs briefed the Chief Adviser on the overall preparations for the election.

It was learnt that 90,000 army personnel, 2,500 navy members, and a number of air force personnel will be deployed to maintain law and order during the election. Each upazila will have one company of army troops on duty.

Additionally, the Chief Adviser was invited to attend the Armed Forces Day celebrations, scheduled for November 21.
