Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus has directed the Public Service Commission (PSC) to conduct the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) examinations every year on schedule, emphasizing transparency and adherence to the official calendar.

Giving the directive during a meeting with PSC officials at the state guesthouse Jamuna on Sunday afternoon, Dr. Yunus underscored the importance of completing examinations and recruitments within the specified timeframe each year.

“BCS exams serve as the ‘entry point’ for government service. Those who pass these exams are entrusted with running the government. Any irregularities at this critical stage could compromise the entire system,” Dr. Yunus said.

He further urged officials to take responsibility for resolving existing problems and crises, calling for collective efforts toward necessary reforms. “These reforms are essential not only for current administration but also for future leaders,” he added.

At the meeting, PSC Chairman Professor Dr. Mobashwer Monem outlined plans to establish financial and administrative autonomy for the commission. He noted that a five-year roadmap has been developed, ensuring exams and recruitment will be completed annually between November and October.

PSC members acknowledged that over the past 15 years, political interference has led to irregularities such as favoritism and question paper leaks in BCS exams. The commission has now implemented reforms to restore public trust and prevent any recurrence of such malpractice.

In addition, the quality of examination papers is being enhanced to enable candidates to compete effectively on a global scale.

The meeting was attended by PSC Chairman Professor Dr. Mobashwer Monem, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration Dr. Md. Mokhlesur Rahman, Chief Secretary to the Chief Advisor Sirajuddin Mia, and PSC members including Md. Sujayet Ullah, Md. Jahirul Islam Bhuiyan, Professor Dr. M. Sohel Rahman, Professor Dr. Chowdhury Saima Ferdous, Brigadier General (Retd.) Dr. Md. Anwarul Islam, Professor Dr. Shahnaz Sarkar, and PSC Secretariat Secretary Dr. Md. Sanowar Jahan Bhuiyan.
