The proposed national budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year, amounting to Tk 9,38,000 crore, has been approved by the Cabinet ahead of its presentation in parliament.

The approval was given at a special Cabinet meeting held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Thursday (June 11), chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury is scheduled to present the budget in parliament at 3:00pm.

According to the approved proposal, the government has set a revenue target of Tk 6,95,000 crore, creating a projected budget deficit of Tk 2,43,000 crore.

To finance the shortfall, the government plans to mobilise funds from both external and domestic sources. Of the total deficit financing, Tk 1,16,000 crore will come from foreign loans and grants, while Tk 1,27,000 crore is expected from domestic sources.

Within domestic borrowing, Tk 1,12,000 crore will be raised from the banking sector, while Tk 15,000 crore will come from savings instruments and other sources.

Officials said the budget will now be formally placed in parliament, marking the country’s 55th national budget. This will also be Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury’s first budget presentation in his current tenure.

As per constitutional procedure, the budget will be endorsed by the President after its parliamentary presentation. The new fiscal year will begin on July 1.
