Cabinet gives final approval to draft Public Procurement Ordinance

The Cabinet has given policy and final approval to the draft of the Public Procurement (Amendment) Ordinance, 2026. The approval was given at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Sunday, September 20.

The Cabinet Division said that through the amendment of the government procurement law, steps will be taken to protect the interests of domestic industries, create more competition in procurement, expand provisions related to managing and administering procurement contracts, and modernise the working procedures of the open tender method.

Additionally, to ensure greater sustainability in procurement, proposals have been made for ratio-based evaluation of determinants in the procurement of goods, works and physical services, application of the limited tender method to ensure balanced distribution of resources, and clarifying provisions related to professional misconduct.

To bring about time-befitting changes in the government procurement system, including provisions for alternative procurement methods in case of national emergency needs, the draft of the 'Public Procurement (Amendment) Ordinance, 2026' was placed before the Cabinet.

Later, subject to vetting by the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division, the draft ordinance was given final approval at the Cabinet meeting.
