Campaign for ‘Yes’ vote in referendum to be held in all educational institutions
The University Grants Commission, UGC, has announced that campaigns in favour of a ‘Yes’ vote in the upcoming referendum will be carried out across all educational institutions in the country. The decision was taken at a meeting held at the UGC on Sunday afternoon, January 18.
Representatives from the Ministry of Education’s Secondary and Higher Education Division, Technical and Madrasah Education Division, the National University and the UGC attended the meeting. It was decided that campaign activities would be conducted at all universities, colleges, schools and madrasahs to encourage students to vote ‘Yes’.
As part of the campaign, leaflets and booklets titled Yes for change will be distributed. Referendum-based documentaries, video clips and songs will also be released through mobile phones and universities’ social media platforms. In addition, banners, festoons and stickers will be displayed on university and college campuses.
Chief Adviser’s special assistant, adviser-level rank, Dr Ali Riaz said the referendum would reflect the aspiration to dismantle a fascist state structure and establish a truly democratic system through state reform. He said there was no alternative to voting ‘Yes’ in the referendum to build a humane and democratic state.
Others present at the meeting included Chief Adviser’s special assistant Monir Haider, UGC chairman SM A Fayez, Secondary and Higher Education Division secretary Rehana Parvin, Technical and Madrasah Education Division secretary Muhammad Rafiqul Islam, National University vice-chancellor Professor ASM Amanullah and UGC member Professor Mohammad Tanzimuddin Khan.
