Can't send hilsa to India, it's an expensive fish: Fisheries advisor
Advisor to the interim government on fisheries and livestock Farida Akhtar has said that Bangladesh will not send hilsa to Indian state of West Bengal on the occasion of Durga Puja like previous years.
She said this in an interview given to Indian media News-18 on Friday (September 13).
Farida Akhtar said, “We apologise, we cannot send any hilsa to India. It is an expensive fish. We have seen that people of our country cannot eat hilsa, because all are shipped to India. The rest of the fishes have to be eaten at a high price. We also celebrate Durga Puja. Our people also need hilsa to celebrate the festival.”
“It will be ensured that other citizens including the Hindus can eat hilsa during this Durga Puja festival. The people of the country will be given priority over India,” she added.
