Case filed against Barguna AC Land for forging Deputy Speaker's signature
A case has been filed against Shawan Majumder Sumon, Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Barguna Sadar upazila, over allegations of forging the signature of Jatiya Sangsad Deputy Speaker Barrister Kaiser Kamal and using the Parliament Secretariat's official letterhead to prevent his transfer and secure a desired posting.
The case was filed by Md Monir Hossain, Director of the Public Relations Sub-Division-1 of the Parliament Secretariat, with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station in Dhaka on Thursday, August 7.
Shawan Majumder has been named the prime accused in the case, along with several unidentified others.
The case statement said the government official, Shawan Majumder, created a fake demi-official (DO) letter using the forged signature of the Deputy Speaker and the Parliament Secretariat's letterhead. The document was used to attempt to cancel his transfer and secure a posting at a desired location.
According to the documents, Shawan Majumder was transferred from Barguna Sadar to Rangabali upazila in Patuakhali. The forged DO letter requested the cancellation of his transfer order and his appointment as Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Keraniganj upazila in Dhaka.
The forgery was detected when the letter was verified at the Parliament Secretariat. Authorities confirmed that no such letter had been issued from the Parliament Secretariat.
The case statement noted that the forged signature of the Deputy Speaker, language, format and other security features on the fake letter did not match the authentic documents of the Parliament Secretariat. The forgery was allegedly committed through fraud to influence the government's posting process.
The complainant expressed concern that an organised forgery ring may be involved in the incident. The case requests forensic examination of mobile phones, computers, emails and other digital devices of the accused, as well as scrutiny of related communications and financial transactions to uncover the full truth.
The case has been filed under relevant sections of the Penal Code on charges of forgery, use of fake documents, fraud and criminal conspiracy. Copies of the forged letter and samples of the Parliament Secretariat's authentic letterhead have been submitted along with the case documents.
