Case filed over Osman Hadi shooting
A case has been filed with Paltan Police Station in connection with the attempted killing of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman bin Hadi, who was shot by assailants in the capital's Paltan-Bijoynagar area.
One of Hadi’s relatives filed the case as the complainant, confirmed by Sub-Inspector (ASI) Rakibul Hasan, duty officer at Paltan Police Station on Monday (December 15).
He said the investigation has been handed over to Inspector (Operations) Yasin Mia.
Earlier, on Friday afternoon (December 12), Osman Hadi—also a potential independent candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency—was injured in a shooting by miscreants in the Bijoynagar area of the capital. He sustained serious gunshot wounds and was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where emergency surgery was performed. Later that evening, he was transferred to Evercare Hospital and remains under intensive medical care.
Following the attack, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and the Dhaka Metropolitan Police launched coordinated operations across Dhaka and its surrounding areas. So far, six people have been arrested in connection with the case. Authorities, however, said none of the detainees are believed to be the gunmen who carried out the attack.
Among those arrested are the owner of the motorcycle allegedly used in the attack, two associates linked to a human trafficking network, and close family members and an associate of suspected shooter Faisal Karim Masud, including his wife, brother-in-law, and girlfriend.
RAB said in a statement that Masud’s wife Samia, his brother-in-law Shipu, and his girlfriend Maria were arrested during overnight raids in Narayanganj and different parts of Dhaka, underscoring the widening scope of the investigation.
