BNP chairman Tarique Rahman has said voters must not leave polling centres after casting their ballots but must remain present to ensure vote counts are properly verified.

He made the remarks while virtually addressing party leaders, activists and voters at a BNP election rally in Hatiya, Noakhali, on Monday, January 26.

Alleging conspiracies to obstruct the 13th national parliamentary election, Tarique Rahman urged people to remain vigilant.

“Our people’s voting rights were taken away. Freedom of speech was taken away. Those responsible have fled the country. But now another group is trying to conspire again to disrupt the election. Everyone must remain alert,” he said.

He also urged party leaders, activists and voters to guard polling centres on voting day, February 12.

“Casting votes alone is not enough. After voting, you must stay there so that the vote you cast is properly accounted for, down to the last detail,” he said.

Tarique Rahman further said, “I repeatedly say this country belongs to all of us. We must build it together, keeping people of all religions united. This country is our first and last address.”

Tarique Rahman launched his election campaign from Sylhet on January 22 and addressed six more rallies on his way to Dhaka the same day. After a rally at Chattogram’s Polo Ground on Sunday, he joined election meetings in Feni and Cumilla before virtually addressing the rally in Hatiya on Monday.
