CEC convenes parliament session for presidential election
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has convened a session of the national parliament for the presidential election in Bangladesh.
The Election Commission Secretariat has issued a notification in this regard. According to the notification, the meeting of members of parliament for the presidential election voting will take place on August 20 at 2pm in the parliament chamber of the National Parliament Building.
The notification stated that the CEC has called this session in consultation with the Speaker of Parliament, utilizing the powers conferred under Section 5(3) of the Presidential Election Act, 1991.
Earlier, Election Commission Secretariat Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed had informed that voting for the presidential election will be held continuously from 2pm to 5pm on August 20 inside the session room of the National Parliament Building on Tuesday afternoon.
Immediately after voting concludes at 5pm, vote counting will begin in front of the ballot boxes placed inside the session room, and preliminary results will be announced following the count.
On July 24, the 22nd President, Mohammed Shahabuddin, resigned. Subsequently, the Election Commission initiated preparations for the election of the 23rd President.
The deadline for submitting nomination papers for the presidential election is August 13. Scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on August 16, and the final date for withdrawing candidature is August 18.
