CEC to announce election schedule at 7:00 pm

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal is set to address the nation and announce the schedule for the upcoming general election at 7 pm today. EC Secretary Jahangir Alam confirmed the matter while briefing reporters this morning.

Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar will broadcast the CEC’s speech in the evening. Before announcing the polls schedule, a meeting will be held at the Election Commission at 5 pm today.

The EC secretary said, "Since assuming office, the present Election Commission has engaged with diverse stakeholders to unveil a comprehensive roadmap. Following this roadmap, the 26th commission meeting for the 12th national parliament election is slated for today at 5pm. Subsequent to this meeting's decisions, the Chief Election Commissioner will address the nation at 7 pm, unveiling the complete schedule for the 12th National Assembly."

"In the past, Chief Election Commissioners announced the national election schedule through recorded speeches. However, the CEC's speech will be 'broadcast live' on BTV and radio this time. The speeches were recorded and broadcast at the end of the commission meetings in the past. This is the first time that CEC's speech along with the schedule will be broadcast live from the Election Commission," Jahangir Alam added.
