Charge sheet in Ramisa murder case likely Sunday: Home Minister
The charge sheet in the rape and murder case of seven-year-old Ramisa Akter is expected to be filed in court on Sunday, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said.
He made the statement on Thursday night (May 21) after Tarique Rahman visited the victim’s family residence in Mirpur's Pallabi to offer condolences.
Officials said the head of government visited the home around 10:00pm after completing duties at the Secretariat, accompanied by advisers from the home and law ministries, the state minister for youth and sports, and the administrator of Dhaka North City Corporation.
Salahuddin Ahmed said the accused has already given a confessional statement under Section 164 and that DNA testing is underway at the CID laboratory following court approval.
The process is expected to be completed by Sunday noon, paving the way for submission of the charge sheet the same day, he said.
“We are working to ensure the fastest possible trial and maximum punishment,” he said, adding that legal amendments related to child rape and murder are under consideration.
The government has also assured full support for the victim’s surviving sister, including education and welfare assistance, he added.
The case sparked nationwide outrage after police recovered Ramisa’s mutilated body from a flat in Mirpur on Tuesday morning, with her severed head later found in a bathroom.
A murder case has been filed with Pallabi Police Station. Police have arrested the prime accused and his wife, and investigators say the accused has confessed to the crime.
