Allegations of Operating Fake Social Media Page
Chhatra Dal demands action within 48 hrs against Sadiq Kayem, associates
The Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (BCD) has demanded administrative and legal action within 48 hours against Dhaka University Central Students’ Union Vice President Sadik Kayem and several of his alleged associates, accusing them of involvement in operating social media pages used for propaganda.
The demand was submitted in a written complaint to Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor A B M Obaidul Islam on Sunday (April 26).
Chhatra Dal leaders alleged that several pages, including “DU Uncensored” and “DU Observer,” have been run by a coordinated group and were used over the past one and a half years to circulate misleading content, photo cards, and videos targeting student politics and individuals.
After submitting the complaint, Chhatra Dal President Ganesh Chandra Roy Sahos said the vice-chancellor assured them that the allegations would be reviewed and appropriate action would be taken within 48 hours.
BCD General Secretary Nahiduzzaman Shipon alleged that the pages were used to target student leaders, particularly female activists, and to spread coordinated disinformation that has contributed to rising tensions on campus.
He urged the university administration to take immediate legal and institutional steps, warning that failure to act could further destabilise the campus environment.
