Chhatra Dal stages sit-in in front of Election Commission

Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Chhatra Dal held a sit-in in front of the Election Commission (EC) headquarters in Agargaon on Sunday (January 18), protesting alleged ballot irregularities and undue influence by a specific political group in university student council elections.

The demonstration began around 11:30am, with central leaders along with representatives from Dhaka North, South, and various local units participating.

Central Chhatra Dal President Rakibul Islam Rakib and General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir were present at the venue.

Rakibul Islam said the protest was organised to demand accountability, citing serious allegations regarding ballot papers and interference by a particular group in EC decision-making.

He claimed the group frequently meets with the Chief Election Commissioner and other officials and moves freely in government offices without formal authority, influencing election processes.

The student leader warned that unless such undue influence is curbed, Chhatra Dal may escalate its protest actions in the future.
