Tensions erupted in the Shahbagh police station area on Thursday evening as activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and Islami Chhatra Shibir engaged in a clash marked by chase and counter-chase.

According to sources, the situation began when Chhatra Dal members arrived at Shahbagh Police Station to file a case over a Facebook post allegedly containing derogatory content targeting Zaima Rahman, daughter of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

Later, journalists from University of Dhaka, along with members of Chhatra Shibir and representatives of DUCSU, gathered at the police station. An argument between the two sides escalated into physical altercations, including pushing and clashing.

Chhatra Shibir alleged that during the clash, their activists were chased into the police station, where DUCSU Literary and Cultural Affairs Secretary Musaddiq was assaulted. They also claimed that another DUCSU leader, AB Zubair, was stuck inside the premises.

Earlier in the evening, Chhatra Dal activists staged a sit-in in Shahbagh, protesting against “covert politics” on campus and condemning the derogatory post about Zaima Rahman.

Law enforcement officials have not yet issued a details statement, and the situation was reported to be under monitoring.
