Chhatra League announces committees for 11 Rajshahi University halls
The banned student organisation Bangladesh Chhatra League has announced partial committees for 11 residential halls at Rajshahi University. The committees were announced through a notice signed by the university's Chhatra League president Mostafizur Rahman Babu and general secretary Asadullah-Hil-Galib on Monday night, May 4.
The committees include Tanvir Ahmed as president and Tamim Hasan as general secretary of Bangabandhu Hall (Bijoy 24). For other halls, Shubhra Deb Saha and Mobashwer Raihan Rafi have been given responsibilities for Sher-e-Bangla Hall, Elahi Sheikh and Ehsan Ahmed Akash for Shah Makhdum Hall, Masudur Rahman and Abdul Jalil Chowdhury for Nawab Abdul Latif Hall, Golam Kibria and Mashiur Rahman Mihad for Syed Amir Ali Hall, Raisul Islam and Sohan Hasan for Shaheed Habibur Rahman Hall, Majedul Islam Mridul and Tanzil Hasan Sumon for Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Hall, Shamim Shikdar and Fazle Rabbi for Madar Bakhsh Hall, and Dalim Mirza and Abdullah Shoaib for Motihar Hall. The notification said these leaders have been given responsibilities for the next one year.
The announcement of committees by the banned organisation has sparked strong reactions on campus. Student leaders said this is an attempt to create anarchy on campus while the organisation's leadership remains fugitive.
Rajshahi University Chhatra Dal president Sultan Ahmed Rahi dismissed the development, saying the organisation is banned and its leadership is on the run. "They are completely isolated from students. In this situation, announcing committees is nothing but laughable and detached from reality. We do not take this committee announcement seriously," he said.
