Chief Adviser attends Khaleda Zia’s funeral prayers at Manik Mia Avenue

Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus arrived at Manik Mia Avenue in the capital on Wednesday to attend the funeral prayers of BNP chairperson and former prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia.

Shortly after 12:00pm, the flag-draped coffin carrying Khaleda Zia’s body was brought to the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, where her janaza was scheduled to be held after Zuhr. The prayers were to be led by Baitul Mukarram National Mosque Khatib Mufti Abdul Malek.

Earlier, at around 11:00am, the ambulance carrying her body departed from the residence of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman at house No. 196 on Gulshan Avenue. The ambulance had reached the residence at 9:17am under tight security.

After the funeral prayers, Khaleda Zia will be laid to rest beside the grave of her husband, martyred president Ziaur Rahman.

Representatives from several countries, including India and Pakistan, as well as other South and Southeast Asian nations, were present in Dhaka to attend the janaza.

Begum Khaleda Zia died at around 6:00am on Tuesday (December 30) while undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in the capital. Following her death, the government declared a three-day state mourning from Wednesday to Friday (December 31 to January 2) and announced a general holiday nationwide on Wednesday.
