Chief Adviser of the interim government, Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus, visited the Dhakeshwari National Temple in Dhaka on Tuesday (16 September) to exchange greetings with members of the Hindu community on the occasion of Durga Puja.

He arrived at the temple around 11 am and attended a greeting exchange meeting with Hindu religious leaders.

Earlier, on Monday evening, leaders of various Puja celebration committees met the Chief Adviser at the state guesthouse Jamuna and invited him to visit puja mandaps during the upcoming festival.

The Chief Adviser said: “I always wish to meet you, but rarely get the opportunity. Durga Puja is the one time of year when we can meet face-to-face and exchange words.”

During the visit, he enquired about the preparations and overall situation of the puja.

In response, Hindu leaders said that compared to last year, the number of puja mandaps has increased by more than a thousand across the country. Preparations are progressing in full swing. They also expressed gratitude to the interim government, particularly the Adviser to the Ministry of Religious Affairs and the ministry’s secretary, for their full cooperation.

They added: “The Religious Affairs Adviser maintains regular contact with us and visits temples. The administration is extending maximum cooperation to make the festival joyful. With their tireless efforts, we expect this year’s Durga Puja to be celebrated peacefully like the last.”
