Chief Justice Jubayer Rahman Chowdhury has warned against using artificial intelligence (AI) to write court judgments under any circumstances.

He issued the warning at the inauguration of the country's first AI Governance Summer School at the Asiatic Society of Bangladesh auditorium in the capital on Saturday (August 29).

The Chief Justice said a case's subject matter, relevant laws and articles, data and the judge's conscience—these cannot be adjudicated by AI. He stressed the need for caution in using AI in judicial decision-making.

He also emphasised the need for effective laws and policies to regulate where and to what extent AI can be used. AI must be used to make human life easier and protect fundamental rights, he said.

The Chief Justice highlighted the importance of training and skills alongside infrastructure in AI application. He also warned that using AI-generated information without verification is risky.
