Child among 3 burnt in explosion from gas leakage in Shukrabad

A child is among three people who have suffered burn injuries in an explosion caused by a gas leak in Dhaka’s Shukrabad.

The injured have been admitted to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in critical condition.

Md Tariqul Islam, resident physician at the burn institute, informed the media that the explosion, caused by a leakage in the gas pipeline, broke out at a house in Shukrabad around 5:30am on Saturday.

Nipa and Bayzid, who gave single names, and Md Totan suffered burn injuries in the incident. Businessman Totan is 35-year-old, housewife Nipa is 30-year-old and the child, Bayzid, is three-year-old. They all were admitted to the institute’s red unit in the emergency department.

Tariqul said the condition of the three is critical.

“Totan suffered burns on 50 percent of his body, Nipa on 32 percent and Bayzid 45 percent.”
