Child Naeem receives remaining Tk 15 lakh compensation for lost hand
Naeem Hasan, the child who lost his right hand while working at a workshop in Bhairab, Kishoreganj, has received the remaining Tk 15 lakh of his compensation. The workshop owner handed over a pay order for Tk 15 lakh in the Appellate Division on Monday, July 6. With this, the child has received the full Tk 30 lakh compensation.
The child was represented by lawyer Omar Faruk, who said the full compensation amount had been paid in three installments. The workshop owner also paid six months' outstanding educational expenses. Additionally, the workshop owner must pay Tk 7,000 per month for the child's educational expenses until he turns 18.
In 2020, during the Covid pandemic, 10-year-old Naeem Hasan was forced to work at the workshop. His right hand got caught in a machine while working and had to be amputated from the elbow.
The child's father filed a writ petition in the High Court seeking compensation. Disposing of the rule issued in that writ, the High Court ordered Tk 30 lakh compensation and Tk 7,000 per month until the child takes his HSC examination. The workshop owner, Haji Yakub, appealed against the High Court's decision, but the Appellate Division upheld it.
