A special 'green channel' has been launched at a hospital in Kunming, China, to facilitate access to advanced eye care for Bangladeshi patients, offering priority appointments, interpretation assistance and post-treatment follow-up services.

The initiative was formally inaugurated at Kunming Huaxia Eye Hospital in southwest China today, with Bangladesh Consul General in Kunming Shahnaz Ranu unveiling the plaque marking the launch, said a press release here.

She also inaugurated the Huaxia Ophthalmology International Forum 2026 on the occasion.

First Secretary (Commercial) of the Bangladesh Consulate General Ridwanur Rahman and Vice President of Huaxia Eye Hospital Zhang Zhiyong attended the programme.

According to press release, under the new arrangement, Bangladeshi patients will be able to receive medical consultations and have their medical documents reviewed before travelling to China for treatment.

Upon arrival, they will receive priority appointments and assistance through a dedicated international service desk.

The initiative will also provide interpretation services to help patients overcome language barriers and facilitate follow-up consultations after they return to Bangladesh.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Shahnaz Ranu highlighted Bangladesh's progress in the public health sector and the achievements of the country's eye care institutions.

"Ensuring quality and safe medical care, maintaining transparency in treatment costs and upholding patients' dignity are the key expectations of the Bangladesh Consulate General," she said.

The consul general also called on the hospital authorities to contribute not only to expanding access to eye treatment in China for Bangladeshi patients but also to strengthening Bangladesh's domestic ophthalmic care capacity.

She particularly stressed the need for training Bangladeshi eye specialists and nurses, introducing teleconsultation services and developing partnerships with eye care institutions in Bangladesh.

Such initiatives could help enhance the capacity to provide advanced eye treatment within Bangladesh, she noted.

The launch of the green channel is expected to establish a coordinated support system for Bangladeshi eye patients seeking treatment in China, covering pre-travel consultations, hospital appointments and post-treatment follow-up.

The initiative also highlights opportunities to expand professional training and institutional cooperation between Bangladesh and China in the field of ophthalmology.
