China is fully prepared to start work on the long-discussed Teesta project as soon as the Bangladesh government gives the go-ahead, Chinese Ambassador to Dhaka Yao Wen said on Sunday (February 22). Speaking to reporters at the Secretariat, the envoy said Beijing remains ready to implement the project whenever Bangladesh decides to proceed. He also emphasised that China does not want interference from any third country or external power in its relations with Bangladesh or any South Asian nation. “If China’s relations with any country become the target of a third party, such attempts will fail,” he said. The ambassador expressed optimism that bilateral ties between China and Bangladesh would reach a new height in the coming years.

ঢাকায় নিযুক্ত চীনের রাষ্ট্রদূত ইয়াও ওয়েন রোববার বলেছেন, বাংলাদেশ সরকার অনুমোদন দেওয়ার সঙ্গে সঙ্গে চীন সম্পূর্ণভাবে দীর্ঘদিন ধরে আলোচিত তিস্তা প্রকল্পের কাজ শুরু করতে প্রস্তুত। সচিবালয়ে সাংবাদিকদের সঙ্গে আলাপকালে তিনি বলেন, বাংলাদেশ যেকোনো সময় প্রকল্পটি এগিয়ে নেওয়ার সিদ্ধান্ত নিলেই বেইজিং তা বাস্তবায়নের জন্য প্রস্তুত। আরেকটি প্রশ্নের জবাবে রাষ্ট্রদূত আরও বলেন, চীন চায় না কোনো তৃতীয় দেশ বা বহিরাগত শক্তি বাংলাদেশের সঙ্গে বা কোনো দক্ষিণ এশিয়ার দেশের সঙ্গে তার সম্পর্কের ক্ষেত্রে হস্তক্ষেপ করুক। তিনি বলেন, “চীনের কোনো দেশের সঙ্গে সম্পর্ক যদি কোনো তৃতীয় পক্ষের টার্গেট হয়, তাহলে সেই চেষ্টা ব্যর্থ হবে।” রাষ্ট্রদূত আশা প্রকাশ করেন যে, আগামী কয়েক বছরে চীন ও বাংলাদেশের দ্বিপাক্ষিক সম্পর্ক নতুন উচ্চতায় পৌঁছাবে।
