Chinese Ambassador to Dhaka Yao Wen has paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. During the meeting, an official invitation was extended to the Prime Minister from the Chinese President to visit China.

The meeting took place on Monday morning, February 23, at the Prime Minister's Office in the Secretariat.

Prime Minister's Adviser Humayun Kabir told journalists that the ambassador conveyed the Chinese President's greetings to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. Discussions were also held on further strengthening bilateral relations.

Humayun Kabir said Bangladesh-China relations stand on a historically strong foundation. The diplomatic and economic ties established during the time of martyr president Ziaur Rahman have consistently grown stronger over time.

He said China remains one of Bangladesh's most important development partners. Cooperation between the two countries has expanded across various sectors including infrastructure development, trade and investment. Both nations will work to take this relationship to new heights in the future.

Discussions during the meeting covered matters of mutual interest, increasing economic cooperation and strategies to further advance bilateral relations, the Prime Minister's adviser added.

It is noteworthy that China has long been assisting Bangladesh in various development projects as a close and strategic partner. Observers believe that if this prospective visit materialises, bilateral ties will gain new momentum.
