Chinmoy Krishna Das gets bail in two cases, but not yet released

Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, spokesperson of the Sanatani Jagaran Jote, has been granted bail by the High Court in two cases. However, he will not be released from custody immediately as there are more cases against him.

A High Court bench comprising Justice K M Zahid Sarwar and Justice Sheikh Abu Taher delivered the verdict on Sunday, declaring the rules issued on the bail petitions as absolute.

The High Court had issued rules on Chinmoy's bail in two separate cases — one for attempted murder and the other for vandalism, assault and obstruction of government work. After concluding hearings on July 26, the court fixed August 2 for the verdict. On Sunday, the court granted bail by declaring the rules absolute.

Chinmoy's lawyer, Apurba Kumar Bhattacharya, said a total of six criminal cases have been filed against his client. Among them, the trial is ongoing in the murder case of lawyer Saiful Islam in Chattogram. Additionally, his bail in the sedition case filed over the alleged desecration of the national flag has been stayed.

The lawyer further said the High Court has granted bail in two of the remaining four cases. Hearings on bail in the other two cases will take place on August 16.

On November 26, 2024, a clash broke out in the Chattogram court area during Chinmoy Krishna Das's bail hearing, resulting in the death of lawyer Saiful Islam. Multiple cases, including murder, attempted murder, assault, obstruction of government work and cocktail explosions, were filed over the incident.

Chinmoy Krishna Das was arrested on November 25, 2024, from Dhaka in a sedition case filed over the alleged desecration of the national flag. He has been in custody in various cases since then.
