Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Minister Dipen Dewan resigns
Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Minister Dipen Dewan has submitted his resignation to the Prime Minister, citing ongoing health complications, officials said on Monday (June 1).
In his resignation letter addressed to the Prime Minister, Dipen Dewan stated that he has been suffering from multiple physical ailments since taking office, which have made it increasingly difficult for him to carry out his official responsibilities and routine ministerial duties.
He added that, in the interest of maintaining the pace of government development activities and administrative efficiency, he believes it is appropriate to step down from his current post. He requested that his resignation be accepted.
According to official sources, the Prime Minister has already accepted the resignation.
Dewan was appointed as Minister of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Ministry during the formation of the cabinet on February 17 under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
With this development, it marks the first resignation from the current cabinet since its formation.
Dewan, a senior BNP leader and former central committee member, was elected from the Rangamati constituency in the 13th national parliamentary election held on February 12. He was sworn in as a cabinet member on February 17.
