City corporation employee allegedly sacked for visiting Ivy

An employee of Narayanganj City Corporation has been terminated after visiting former mayor Dr Selina Hayat Ivy at her residence following her release from jail, though the corporation administrator has denied the claim, citing other reasons for the dismissal.

Torik Ahmed, a fourth-class employee working as a peon, was sacked on Thursday noon, June 4.

Torik claimed that his house is located next to Ivy's residence in Deobhog. When the former mayor returned home after being released on bail on Wednesday night, he and other locals went to greet her. A photo of him at the scene spread on social media. The city corporation administrator summoned him, and after he confirmed the visit, he was dismissed.

However, Narayanganj City Corporation Administrator and Metropolitan BNP Convener Advocate Sakhawat Hossain Khan denied the allegation. While confirming the dismissal, he said Torik was not sacked for meeting Ivy but for working at a bank's agent branch while simultaneously employed at the city corporation, leaving work after marking his attendance.

Security has been tightened around Ivy's residence, with increased police surveillance and the installation of CCTV cameras.

Dr Selina Hayat Ivy was released from Kashimpur Central Women's Jail on Wednesday night, June 3, after the Appellate Division's Chamber Court upheld her bail in the remaining cases against her.
