Civic condolence meeting for Khaleda Zia begins
The civic condolence meeting organised in memory of BNP chairperson and former prime minister Khaleda Zia has begun. The programme started on Friday afternoon, shortly after 2:30 pm, as per the scheduled time.
Invited guests began arriving from noon at the venue, set up at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Manik Mia Avenue in the capital.
BNP chairperson Tarique Rahman attended the civic condolence meeting, accompanied by his family. His wife Dr Zubaida Rahman and daughter Barrister Zaima Rahman were also present.
Following Tarique Rahman’s arrival, the condolence meeting began at 3:05pm with recitation from the Holy Quran. The elegy was presented by Saleh Uddin, executive editor of the Daily Ittefaq.
No leaders of any political party will deliver speeches from the stage at the meeting. Instead, eminent citizens, researchers, physicians, teachers, religious representatives, representatives of indigenous communities, and leaders from various professions will speak.
The meeting is being chaired by former chief justice Syed J R Modassir Hossain, while it is being conducted by Ashraf Kaiser and Kazi Jesin.
