Class 1 admissions to be through lottery, no exams

The Ministry of Education has taken a policy decision to conduct Class 1 admissions through lottery, as before, without holding admission tests from the next academic year.

Ministry sources said parents had expressed concern after the announcement of introducing admission tests for Class 1. Many resorted to coaching centres and private tutors to prepare their children for the tests. Considering the situation, a decision was taken to revert to the lottery system and abandon the admission tests.

A senior official of the Ministry of Education said Class 1 students would be admitted through lottery, as was the previous practice. No admission tests would be held. However, tests would be conducted for admissions from Class 2 to Class 9.

Meanwhile, the Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee has proposed that admissions to Class 11 this academic year be conducted based on the results of the SSC and equivalent examinations.
