A sudden cocktail explosion in front of St. Mary’s Cathedral Church in Dhaka’s Ramna area caused panic among local residents in the evening on Friday night (November 7), though no casualties were reported.

The incident took place around 10:45pm, ahead of a scheduled religious event on Saturday morning, where around 600 guests from various churches were expected to attend.

According to church authorities, one cocktail exploded outside the church, while another—thrown inside—remained unexploded. Police later recovered the unexploded device.

Father Albert Rosario, the parish priest, confirmed the explosion and said necessary legal measures would be taken.

Assistant Commissioner of Ramna Division (DMP) Mazharul Islam said two cocktails were hurled at the church—one exploded, and the other was recovered. Police have reinforced security and launched an investigation into the incident.
