Cocktail explosions at DU; 7 more devices recovered
Two cocktails exploded early on Monday morning at the pocket gate of a residence hall on the Dhaka University (DU) campus. Authorities later recovered seven more unexploded cocktails from the Kazi Motahar Hossain Building.
DU Proctor Associate Professor Saifuddin Ahmed confirmed the incidents, stating that campus security responded quickly and notified Shahbagh Police Station. The bomb disposal unit was called in and successfully recovered the explosive devices, which were found hidden inside food packets.
“We identified the cocktails through CCTV surveillance. However, the exact spot where they were placed isn’t covered by cameras, so we are currently tracking who entered and exited the area during that time,” said Prof. Ahmed.
He also mentioned that a sudden procession by the banned student organization Chhatra League was held in the Paribagh area around the same time as the explosions near Bangabandhu Hall, raising suspicions of their involvement.
Authorities have increased surveillance across the campus and are working to identify the individuals responsible.
