A cold wave affecting large parts of Bangladesh is expected to persist for several more days, the Meteorological Department said.

On Thursday, cold wave conditions prevailed in 24 districts, covering all districts of Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions, along with Gopalganj, Moulvibazar, Cumilla, Feni, Khulna, Jashore, Chuadanga and Kushtia.

According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), the number of affected districts declined slightly compared to the previous day, when cold wave conditions were reported in 44 districts. Temperatures have risen marginally, including in the capital, though the cold remains significant.

The country’s lowest temperature on Thursday was recorded at 7 degrees Celsius in Srimangal, Moulvibazar. A day earlier, Badalgachhi in Naogaon recorded 6.7 degrees Celsius—the lowest temperature of the current winter season so far. The highest temperature on Thursday was logged in Teknaf at 27 degrees Celsius.

In Dhaka, the minimum temperature stood at 12.5 degrees Celsius, while the maximum reached 21.7 degrees Celsius.

Meteorologist Md Shahinul Islam said cold wave conditions are expected to continue over the coming days, although their coverage may fluctuate. Prolonged low temperatures and dense fog in affected regions are likely to continue disrupting daily life, particularly in northern and western parts of the country.
