The government has removed councillors of 12 city corporations and 323 municipalities of the country. Local Government Division, under the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives, issued a notification in this regard on Thursday (26 September). The 12 city corporations are--Dhaka South, Dhaka North, Chattogram, Khulna, Rajshahi, Sylhet, Barishal, Narayanganj, Cumilla, Rangpur, Gazipur and Mymensingh. Earlier on August 19, the mayors of these city corporations were removed. The government then appointed administrators in the 12 city corporations. Meanwhile, the remaining 61 Zilla Parishad members have also been removed except from the three hill districts.

দেশের ১২টি সিটি করপোরেশন ও ৩২৩টি পৌরসভার কাউন্সিলরদের অপসারণ করেছে অন্তর্বর্তীকালীন সরকার। বৃহস্পতিবার (২৬ সেপ্টেম্বর) স্থানীয় সরকার বিভাগ থেকে এ বিষয়ে আলাদা আলাদা প্রজ্ঞাপন জারি করা হয়। ১২ সিটি করপোরেশন হলো: ঢাকা দক্ষিণ, ঢাকা উত্তর, চট্টগ্রাম, খুলনা, রাজশাহী, সিলেট, বরিশাল, নারায়ণগঞ্জ, কুমিল্লা, রংপুর, গাজীপুর ও ময়মনসিংহ। এর আগে ১৯ আগস্ট এসব সিটি করপোরেশনের মেয়রদের অপসারণ করা হয়েছিল। তখন ১২টি সিটি করপোরেশনে প্রশাসক নিয়োগ দেয় সরকার। এদিকে ৩টি পার্বত্য জেলা ছাড়া বাকি ৬১টি জেলা পরিষদের সদস্যদেরও অপসারণ করা হয়েছে। এসব জেলা পরিষদের চেয়ারম্যানদেরও অপসারণ করে সেগুলোতে প্রশাসক নিয়োগ দেওয়া হয়েছিল।
