Country gets record $263.9cr remittances in December
The country received remittances worth $263.9 crore in the month of December, the highest in a month in the country’s history.
In local currency (Tk 120 per dollar), the amount is worth Tk 31,668 crore, according to Bangladesh Bank sources.
Earlier, during the Corona period, $2.59 billion remittances came in July 2020. This time, that record has been broken in the month of victory in December 2024.
According to Bangladesh Bank data, the remittances received in December 2024 is $64.8 crore more than the same period of the last year.
Last year, $199.1 crore remittances came in December. In 2024, except for July 2024, more than $200 crore remittances came in each of the remaining 11 months.
According to available data, Bangladeshis living in different countries sent remittances worth $1,377.7 crore in the first half (July-December) of the current fiscal year 2024-25. This is $297.7 crore more than the same period of the previous fiscal year. The country received $1,080 crore remittances in the first half (July-December) of the previous fiscal year.
