Country's 2,847 villages still lack primary schools: Education Minister
Education Minister A N M Ehsanul Haque Milan has revealed that 2,847 villages across Bangladesh still do not have a primary school.
He made the statement during the parliamentary question-and-answer session on Wednesday (April 8), presided over by Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad Bir Bikram, in response to a written question from Feni-2 MP Zainal Abidin.
According to the minister, establishing a primary school in every village has not yet been possible. Division-wise data shows the highest number of school-less villages is in Chattogram with 818, followed by Dhaka with 717, Rajshahi with 355, Khulna with 349, Mymensingh with 266, Sylhet with 260, Barishal with 45, and the lowest in Rangpur with 37 villages.
On plans to set up schools in these villages, the minister said the government will take necessary steps in the future based on proposals, assessed needs, and conditions.
