Country’s existence cannot be imagined without 71' spirit: Tarique Rahman
BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman said the Liberation War of 1971 is the foundation of Bangladesh and that the country’s existence cannot be imagined without it.
Rahman made the remarks during a meeting with leaders of the Democratic Left Alliance at the BNP chairperson’s office in Gulshan on Monday (January 5).
He called on both the government and opposition forces to work together to utilise the new political realities and opportunities that have emerged following the uprising and move the country forward.
At the meeting, the alliance leaders conveyed their condolences over the death of BNP Chairperson and former prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia. They also exchanged views with Tarique Rahman on the country’s ongoing political situation.
The leftist leaders emphasised the need to remain united to ensure that forces opposed to the spirit of the 1971 Liberation War never return to political power in Bangladesh. They stressed the importance of upholding the true ideals of the Liberation War.
Tarique Rahman also expressed concern over the country’s law and order situation and underscored the need to ensure a free, fair and credible election.
