Country's power generation ability reaches 28,919 MW
The country's power sector has hit a new milestone, with 136 operational electricity generation plants nationwide and a combined production capacity of 28,919 megawatts (MW).
Energy, Power and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud disclosed the figures on Thursday (April 2) in response to a parliamentary question from Cox’s Bazar-3 MP Lutfur Rahman.
According to the minister, 64 state-owned power plants contribute 12,302 MW, 69 privately-owned plants add 10,853 MW, and three joint ventures account for 3,768 MW.
Despite a total installed capacity of nearly 29,000 MW, actual daily generation averages between 14,500 and 15,000 MW, depending on demand.
Mahmud emphasised the strong participation of both public and private sectors in meeting the country’s electricity needs.
