Court cancels Samrat’s bail, issues warrant

A Dhaka court has cancelled the bail of expelled Jubo League leader Ismail Chowdhury Samrat in a money laundering case involving Tk195 crore and issued an arrest warrant against him.

Metropolitan Magistrate Md Saifuzzaman passed the order on Sunday.

Dhaka Metropolitan Public Prosecutor Omar Faruk Faruki said, “An appeal was made to revoke Samrat’s exemption from personal appearance in court. It was stated that while on bail, he was involved in various criminal and anti-state activities and had left the country without court permission.”

The court also cancelled the bail of co-accused Arman, who repeatedly failed to appear before the court.

The case was filed by CID Sub-Inspector Rashedur Rahman at Ramna Model Police Station on 13 September 2020 under the Money Laundering Prevention Act.
