A court has rejected the bail application of former Narayanganj City Corporation Mayor Selina Hayat Ivy in the murder case of interior worker Selim Mandal in Siddhirganj, Narayanganj.

Judge Md Abu Shamim Azad of the Narayanganj District and Sessions Judge's Court passed the order after a hearing on Monday afternoon, March 30.

Former mayor Ivy is currently incarcerated in Kashimpur Women's Jail in Gazipur. On February 26, Investigating Officer and Siddhirganj Police Station Sub-Inspector Abdus Samad applied to have her shown arrested in this case, marking her 11th case.

Earlier last Thursday, Ivy had received bail from the High Court in five cases. Although she received bail in another five cases, those orders remain stayed following state appeals and are awaiting hearing in the Appellate Division.

According to case details, during the anti-discrimination student-public movement on July 20, 2024, Selim Mandal was burnt to death in the Shimrail area of Siddhirganj. His brother Wazed Ali filed a case, naming seven individuals as accused along with 80 unidentified persons.

Ivy's lawyer Aulad Hossain claimed that although her name was not in the initial complaint, she was shown arrested nearly 11 months after the incident, calling it harassment. He also alleged that the investigating officer did not present relevant information as directed by the court.

Ivy's lawyer said they would appeal against the order in the High Court.
