Court grants 3-day remand for NCP leader Salahuddin Tanvir

A court has granted a three-day remand for expelled National Citizen Party (NCP) leader Gazi Salahuddin Ahmed Tanvir. Senior Judicial Magistrate Mehedi Hasan of Bogura Sadar Amli Court passed the order after a hearing on Monday, August 10.

Earlier, the investigating officer of the case and Sub-Inspector (SI) Masudur Rahman of Sadar Police Station produced Tanvir before the court and sought a seven-day remand.

Police and court sources said Gazi Salahuddin Ahmed Tanvir was arrested from a residence in Monipuripara, Mirpur, Dhaka, early on August 5. He was later brought to Bogura and produced before the court on the same day. After the initial hearing, the court ordered him to be sent to jail.

According to the case's first information report (FIR) and related sources, Tanvir posted derogatory and defamatory remarks on his personal Facebook ID targeting Prime Minister Tarique Rahman in connection with an attack during an NCP programme. The post went viral on social media, sparking intense political reactions.

In this connection, Bogura Sadar Thana BNP President Maftun Ahmed Khan Rubel filed a case under the Cyber Security Act with Bogura Sadar Police Station.
