Court lifts ban on GM Quader's activities as JaPa Chairman
A Dhaka court has withdrawn the temporary injunction that had barred GM Quader from carrying out his duties as Chairman of the Jatiya Party (JaPa).
The order came after the case's plaintiff, JaPa's Senior Co-Chairman Barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud, formally withdrew the case. GM Quader’s lawyer, Advocate Monowar Hossain Alam, confirmed the development on Wednesday.
The case was withdrawn on Tuesday following an application by the party’s Office Secretary, MA Razzak Khan. Judge Robayet Ferdous of Dhaka’s Additional Joint District Judge Court granted the withdrawal order.
The injunction had initially been issued on July 30, following a case filed by recently relieved party General Secretary Mujibul Haque Chunnu and nine other former senior leaders. They accused Quader of violating the party’s constitution by declaring himself Chairman in July 2019 and later approving a new constitution through an allegedly illegitimate party council held in December of that year.
The plaintiffs also cited the removal of ten senior leaders from party positions and the erasure of their names from the party’s website. The case was officially filed on July 10.
With the case now withdrawn, GM Quader is once again free to carry out all party-related activities as Chairman.
