A court has ordered DNA testing of three new suspects in the murder case of Sohagi Jahan Tonu, a student of History department at Cumilla Victoria Government College and theatre activist, ten years after her death.

Cumilla Chief Judicial Magistrate Md Mominul Haque passed the order on Monday, April 6.

The investigating officer submitted a written report on the progress of the investigation, based on which the court ordered DNA testing of the three suspects. The suspects are retired army officers.

DNA profiles of the three had been collected earlier from some of Tonu's clothes, but they were never matched. The court has now ordered the testing.

Tonu went missing on March 20, 2016, while going for tuition inside Cumilla Cantonment. Her body was recovered from a jungle near the power house inside the cantonment. Her father filed a murder case the next day.

Police, DB and CID investigated the case for years without success. The case was transferred to PBI in 2020.

Tonu's father appeared in court on Monday and demanded justice once again. He expressed frustration that his daughter's murder remains unresolved after ten years.
