The Supreme Court’s chamber court has ordered the immediate removal of Mahmudur Rahman Manna’s name from the list of loan defaulters, clearing the way for him to contest the election from Bogura.

The order was issued on Monday morning, December 29, by Justice Md Rezaul Haque. The court also stayed a previous High Court order for eight weeks.

Senior lawyers Ahsanul Karim, Syed Mamun Mahbub, Barrister Jyotirmoy Barua and advocate Mostafizur Rahman represented Manna, while senior lawyer Abdul Qayyum appeared for Islami Bank.

Earlier, Manna had filed a writ petition seeking removal of his name from the loan defaulters list, which was rejected by the High Court on December 24. His lawyers later appealed against that verdict.

On December 3, Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited’s Bogura Baragola branch issued a call-back notice seeking recovery of Tk 380.476 million from Afaku Cold Storage Limited, a company led by Mahmudur Rahman Manna. The notice instructed repayment by December 18 and warned of legal action in case of failure.
