Court orders Salman Shah murder case probe report by August 30

A Dhaka court has directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to submit the investigation report in the Salman Shah murder case by August 30.

The report was scheduled to be submitted on Thursday (July 23), but the investigating officer, CID Inspector Ziaul Morshed, failed to file it within the stipulated time.

Consequently, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana set a fresh deadline. The development was confirmed by Prosecution Sub-Inspector Shah Alam.

As part of the investigation, the CID on May 20 sought the court's permission to exhume Salman Shah's body to determine the actual cause of death. On May 24, the court approved the exhumation, preparation of an inquest report and a fresh autopsy.

Following an appeal by the complainant, the matter was recorded, and on June 22, Sylhet Additional District Magistrate Pinky Saha was appointed as the executive magistrate to supervise the exhumation process.

The case names 11 accused, including Salman Shah's wife Samira Haque, his mother-in-law Latifa Haque Leo (Lucy), actor Ashraful Haque Don, and businessman and former film producer Aziz Mohammad Bhai, along with several unidentified individuals. They have been charged under Sections 302/34 of the Penal Code for allegedly conspiring to murder the actor.

The complainant alleges that Salman Shah was murdered in a planned manner and claims there were visible injury marks on his body before his death. The CID is continuing its investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the case.

Salman Shah died at his Dhaka residence on September 6, 1996. The case was initially recorded as an unnatural death, and a subsequent CID investigation concluded that he had died by suicide. However, after years of legal proceedings, a court accepted a revision petition on October 20 last year, ordering the case to be treated as a murder investigation. A formal murder case was filed at Ramna Police Station the following day by the actor's uncle, Mohammad Alamgir.
