Court orders seizure of tax records of ex-Chief Whip Noor-e-Alam Chowdhury

A Dhaka court has ordered the seizure of income tax records of former Jatiya Sangsad Chief Whip and Madaripur-1 lawmaker Noor-e-Alam Chowdhury in connection with an ongoing corruption investigation.

Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Mohammad Sabbir Foyez passed the order on Wednesday (May 6), following a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

According to court officials, the ACC sought the order as part of its probe into allegations of illegal wealth accumulation and suspicious financial transactions involving the former MP.

Investigating officer and ACC Assistant Director A K M Mortuza Ali Sagar submitted the application, stating that Noor-e-Alam Chowdhury is a registered taxpayer and his complete tax records from the beginning up to the 2024–25 fiscal year are essential for a fair and effective investigation. The petition also requested seizure of all related permanent and supplementary tax documents.

Court bench assistant Riaz Hossain confirmed the order.

Earlier, on March 25, 2025, the ACC filed a case against Noor-e-Alam Chowdhury, accusing him of acquiring wealth worth Tk 57.49 crore beyond known sources of income.

The case also alleges that he conducted suspicious transactions amounting to Tk 232.12 crore through eight bank accounts.

The investigation is ongoing.
