Court orders to take testimony again in GK Shamim's case

The corruption case filed by the ACC against contractor SM Golam Kibria alias GK Shamim and his mother Ayesha Akhter has been lifted from the verdict and set for taking testimony. The court of Dhaka Special Judge Court-4 Judge Md. Rabiul Alam gave this order on Monday in view of the defendant's application.

The case was scheduled for a verdict on Monday, but GK Shamim’s lawyer, Shahinur Islam, requested that the investigation officer be re-examined. The court granted the request and scheduled the re-examination of the investigation officer for February 26.

After the arguments of the ACC and the defendants on January 22, the court set the verdict date for January 30. However, as the verdict was not ready on that day, it was set for February 17. GK Shamim is in jail in the case. He was produced in court today. His mother Ayesha Akhter is on bail. Ayesha Akhter surrendered on February 10 and was granted bail. She appeared before the court today through her lawyer.

On October 21, 2019, the ACC's Deputy Director Md. Salahuddin filed the case against GK Shamim and his mother Ayesha Akhter at the ACC's Integrated District Office-1 on charges of acquiring illegal assets worth Tk 297.899 crore.
