Court rejects case application against Yunus, Nurjahan over measles deaths
A Dhaka court has rejected an application to file a case against former chief adviser of the interim government Dr Muhammad Yunus, former health adviser Nurjahan Begum and two others over the death of a nine-month-old child from measles.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Joshita Islam passed the order on Sunday, July 12, ruling that the application lacked sufficient grounds to proceed.
The case was filed by Sirajul Islam, father of the deceased child, Sauda Muskan, who died of measles on July 5. The complainant alleged that the child died due to negligence in treatment, vaccine shortages and government mismanagement after being transferred from Dhaka Medical College Hospital to the Infectious Disease Hospital in Mohakhali.
The application also alleged that the accused were responsible for the failure to ensure timely vaccine supply, leading to the deaths of many children across the country.
Earlier, similar cases filed against Yunus and Nurjahan were also rejected by the court.
