Cox’s Bazar airport is expected to start international flight operations within the next three to four months, Civil Aviation and Tourism State Minister Md. Rashiduzzaman Millat said.

He made the announcement while speaking at a post-session briefing during the Deputy Commissioners’ Conference at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka on Monday (May 4).

The minister said directives have been issued to deputy commissioners to ensure better utilisation and development of airports across the country. He also stressed coordinated efforts to boost the tourism sector in Cox’s Bazar, Kuakata and other potential destinations.

Rashiduzzaman Millat said the government has already signed agreements to procure 14 Boeing aircraft as part of efforts to modernise the national aviation fleet. He added that plans are underway to renovate 8–9 unused airports and bring them into operation for domestic routes.

Responding to questions, the minister said initiatives are being taken to develop Monpura Island in Bhola as a potential tourist destination, with assurances of cooperation from local administration.

He further emphasised the need for skilled manpower in the aviation sector, stating that steps have been taken to establish pilot training academies. Plans are in place to set up training centres in Bogura and Nilphamari.

The minister expressed hope that deputy commissioners would actively support the government’s initiatives, which he said would give new momentum to the country’s aviation and tourism sectors.
